Arts Factory 8: Puppetry 101 with Kate Powell

Over five weeks in January 2026 Puppeteer Kate Powell joined us to share her skills with the group. We went right back to the beginning to understand the fundamentals of puppetry which included breath, focus, weight, direction and speed. This helped the group to start developing characters and to understand how to bring a puppet to life - this included using normal household objects. 

The five weeks concluded in a puppetry showcase where group members performed with puppets to a live audience. 

This foundational work was to ready the group for their next venture - a full outdoor puppetry show with music that would be performed at Etruria Canals Festival in May 2026.
